Rats and Preschool

Yesterday, a friend brought over her pet rats. The kids loved them. Beka now wants a pet rat. I have to admit the little fellas were very charming and well-behaved. I didn’t know how I would react to them but they weren’t as bad as I had imagined. The rats were surprisingly fun and cuddly.

Today, was open house at the preschool. Which meant it was a very busy day, it was also a blast. The kids are great. The other teachers are great. The parents were wonderful. I think it is going to be a terrific school year. We will have to take it one day at a time, but I think I am going to enjoy it greatly. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the children were playing together already. Beka was excited to see all of her friends again and Jared is just ready to be allowed to stay.

Chuck E Cheese

Not that the title isn’t obvious, but I took the kids to Chuck E Cheese today as a last hurrah before preschool starts on Tuesday. It went REALLY well. The kids were well-behaved and polite. They also got to ride many rides and eat lots of pizza. I was very impressed with them. Jared was so excited about going that he kept asking all morning “is it time to go yet?’

On another note. My classroom at school is almost ready. We just have to do a little bit of organizing before the open house Thursday night. I am really getting excited. Teaching will be fun to do again and I still have the afternoons to play with my precious kids.

Nasty Day Outside

It has been raining outside all day. I have been trying to keep the kids occupied. We played with playdough, ran some errands, drew pictures, and then I was out of ideas. So one of them, I can’t remember who, suggested we play hide and seek. I said okay. We played with all of us counting and then it was my turn to count. Both kids ran off to hide and yes I will admit it I may have counted a little longer than actually necessary. Jared hid under the covers on my bed so I, of course, tickled him and then found him. I was standing right next to the bed when suddenly something grabbed my foot. I screamed so loud! I had visions of mice or a huge cockroach or I don’t know what but it had to be yicky. Then I hear the giggling of my daughter. She was hiding under the bed and grabbed my foot. “Mommy, I scared you”, she said while trying not to giggle. I have to admit it was funny.

My children are so brave!

At least that is what I have been telling them all day. Jared and Beka received their chicken pox shots today and Beka got her MMR. The most amazing part was that neither of them cried not even a bit. Beka went first and she pulled through like a pro. Then Jared went and he was just as brave. Of course, all the bravery called for a milkshake for a snack. How can you not reward behavior like that?!

School time

Well, we are ramping up for school around here. I am actually going to go back to work this year. I will be teaching at the preschool Beka and Jared attend. It is a perfect arrangement. So beyond buying fall clothes and little things for them to start back to school, I am trying to organize my teaching stuff and get a classroom ready. Oh I forgot to mention I will be teaching 2 and 3-year olds.

Andrew is getting ready for his highschool reunion in a couple of weeks. I think it should be fun. Catching up with people is usually a good time.

The last two nights we took the kids to a playground. Last night there was group of teen boys playing laser tag. I so wanted to join in and felt like the old married woman. It really looked cool. One guy brought the girlfriend who slept in the car. Now is that a lame date or what.

Quincy Visit

We recently went to Quincy to visit the family. It was a very enjoyable visit, even though, it was oh so hot. We had the opportunity to visit my aunt and uncles. We also took a trip to the Soldiers and Sailors home to feed the deer, llamas, goats, and emu. We spent Saturday morning with Andrew’s family. The kids really enjoyed swinging on their hammock. Jared especially; that boy could sit in a swing all day long. Sunday, we visited a The Crossing and then went to Going Bonkers to play. Beka specifically requested going. I can’t wait until the kids are about two years older and I don’t have to crawl through the indoor playground with them. The great thing is they are oblivious to the arcade games still.
