Wisconsin Trip

This weekend, we went to Sparta, WI for my cousin Laban’s wedding.  The trip took us about 7 hours one way.  Mapquest(5 hours) + potty stops (1 hour) + food break (1 hour) = trip total.  The hotel had a nice swimming pool and a hot tub.  I took a step into the pool and declared it to be “Wisconsin warm” when asked how cold the water was by my Dad.  As George Costanza would say, “there was significant shrinkage”.  The kids had a blast playing with grandma and grandpa.  We found out later that the water temp was a balmy 79 degrees.

The wedding went pretty much as planned.  Beautiful 4-part harmony A Capella singing gave me a twinge of irreverence when I thought about my church’s Sunday morning rock band.  The wedding sermon was one of the worst I have heard before.  It was a solid hour of negative marriage counseling about everything that could possibly go wrong in a marriage and how to fix it.  The vows were nice.  They went with the positive “as long as we both shall live” instead of “till death do us part”.  No rings, candles, or other pagan wedding frills as this was a Mennonite wedding.

We didn’t stick around for the reception because it was running late already and we had a long drive ahead of us.  We ate our reception meal at Mickey D’s before heading home.

Backyard Play

It was a beautiful day outside, so we all lotioned up and played lego blocks in the backyard. The neighbors set up their tent for their kids to play in. Beka and Jared went over and played with them for awhile too.

Farm Park

Beka’s preschool is done for the year. On the last day, we all went to the Farm Park. The kids had a blast. They have every kind of farm animal imaginable there. There were piglets, lambs, and calves. There was a huge horse too. Beka loved milking the pretend cow and looking at the tons of tadpoles in the ponds there. Jared like to try to scare the ducks and geese. Each child received an ice cream cone full of feed to feed all the animals. We even ate lunch there with the class. It was a nice last day. Now if the rain would stop maybe the kids and I could enjoy being outside without anywhere to be.

Westberg Worm

Beka and Jared have been exploring their new backyard. With the heavy rains we’ve had the last two days, they found and adopted a new family member.

“Westberg Worm” as he is affectionately called was given a nice garden with plenty of rocks and grass and shade to play in. His home also had a nice muddy floor for him to wiggle around on.

Mommy and Me

Every year Beka’s preschool has a Mommy and Me night. The teachers plan a nice meal, and small program, and project for just the mommy’s and their children. It is so much fun. The kids all look forward to it. Beka and I even put on our good clothes to go. This year the project was something that will turn into a Mother’s Day gift. I am excited. It is nice to have a night out with just Beka. Next year I get to have a Mommy and me and me night because Jared will be attending the school too.
Since Jared couldn’t go this year, Andrew and he went to Fazolis for supper together and then to the playground. It really was a fun evening for all of us.
